Jack Butland vows to keep working after missing out on England recall

Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland has promised to “keep knocking on the door” after his hopes of an England comeback later this month were quashed.

Butland, who has nine caps to his name but was last called up in 2019, had been tipped for Gareth Southgate’s squad to face Brazil and Belgium.

Established number one Jordan Pickford will be supported by Aaron Ramsdale and Sam Johnstone for those games but Butland has not given up all hope of a late bid for this summer’s European Championship.

The 31-year-old, who acted as Pickford’s deputy at the 2018 World Cup, reacted to his omission after the Gers’ narrow Europa League defeat to Benfica.

Asked if he had been contacted about a possible call-up, Butland told TNT Sport: “No, no discussions. But if…

London to host Euro 2020 final

London has been named as the host city for the UEFA European Championship final in 2020.

Euro 2020 will be the first edition of the competition to be held in 13 cities across Europe, instead of in one or two host countries.

London and Munich had both bid to stage the tournament showpiece and both semi-finals, and it is the English capital that has won the right to do so.

The three matches will be played at Wembley stadium, which has a capacity of 90,000 and has staged the Champions League final twice.

Munich will instead host one of the quarter-finals and three group matches, along with Azerbaijani capital Baku, Rome and Saint Petersburg.

A total of eight cities are to hold three group games and a last-16 clash each, with Bilbao s new San Mames s…

England should pick Rooney for Euro 2016 – Capello

Former England manager Fabio Capello believes Wayne Rooney deserves to get a call up for Euro 2016 despite his indifferent club form.

Rooney has scored seven times in 23 Premier League appearances for Manchester United this season, while the likes of Harry Kane and Jamie Vardy have set the competition alight with their efforts in front of goals.

Kane (24 goals) and Vardy (22) have led title challenges for Tottenham and Leicester City respectively, while Dele Alli (10) has also emerged as one of England s brightest talents playing for Spurs.

However Capello who was in charge of England between 2008 and 2012 believes Rooney is still worthy of a spot in the 23-man squad for the Euros in France.

He is important because it’s important to have him…

Rytting Kaneryd scored the winner in the 36th minute – it looked like she had overrun the ball, but she expertly cut back inside to whip a lovely shot past Sabrina D Angelo into the back of the net.
