Serie A Preview: Bologna v Milan

Bologna and Milan meet on Wednesday with both sides looking to recover from disappointing starts to the campaign.

Stefano Pioli s men have not won a game this season, while Milan have triumphed just once in their opening four games.

Massimiliano Allegri s side s latest defeat came in front of their own fans against Napoli, whose 2-1 victory marked the first time in 27 years that they had beaten Milan at San Siro in the top flight.

Mario Balotelli endured a typically eventful game, the striker missing the first penalty of his career, before scoring in spectacular fashion and then being dismissed after the final whistle following an argument with the referee.

The Italy international will now miss the next three games and he will join a number of first-team player…

Klopp expects Dortmund return to be difficult

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp expects his return to Borussia Dortmund to be a testing experience due to the close bonds he forged at the Bundesliga club.

Next Thursday, Liverpool travel to Signal Iduna Park for the first leg of a highly anticipated Europa League quarter-final.

Klopp enjoyed phenomenal success during seven years at Dortmund, including back-to-back league titles in 2010-11 and 2011-12, before calling time on his tenure at the end of last season.

He told Sport1: I m a competitive type. If it s matchday, normally I can block out everything. This could get difficult this time because I have built good relationships with a lot of people there.

To be honest, it starts with the parking attendants. Everybody there will be happy to see me. This i…

Assaidi completes temporary Stoke switch

Stoke City have confirmed the signing of Liverpool winger Oussama Assaidi on a season-long loan deal.

The 25-year-old joined the Anfield side in August 2012, but has failed to nail down a regular spot in Brendan Rodgers starting XI and made just four Premier League appearances last season.

He joins Erik Pieters and Marc Muniesa in making the switch to the Britannia Stadium during the transfer window, while American striker Juan Agudelo has agreed a January switch.

And manager Mark Hughes believes the Morocco international can offer Stoke a different option to what they currently have at their disposal.

Oussama had a few options and I m delighted he has chosen to join us, Hughes told Stoke s official website.

He s an exciting player, who has great pace and i…

Klose refutes Lazio contract claims

Miroslav Klose has denied claims he was offered a contract extension by Lazio.

Klose joined the Serie A team from Bayern Munich in 2011 but his time in the Italian capital will end when his deal expires next month.

This week, Lazio sporting director Igli Tare claimed the 37-year-old had turned down an offer of a two-year extension in March, stating the striker wasn t interested in remaining.

Klose refuted those comments and said that neither he nor his agent were made aware of a proposal to remain at the Stadio Olimpico.

I do not understand this discussion, the German told DPA.

I will explain this clearly to close the debate: neither me nor my agent ever received any proposal, whether it be a written one or an oral one.

This is regardl…

Doncaster sign Macheda on loan from Man Utd; Rhodes happy at Blackburn

Doncaster Rovers F.C. have completed the signing of Manchester United striker Federico Macheda on an initial one-month loan deal, according to the club s official website, .

Macheda, who joined United from Serie A side Lazio in 2007, burst onto the scene with a dramatic injury-time winner against Aston Villa on his Premier League debut on 5 April 2009.

However, the Italy youth international has since failed to establish himself as a first-team regular at Old Trafford, resulting in three loan spells at U.C. Sampdoria, Queens Park Rangers and VfB Stuttgart.

Macheda trained with the club s first-team for the second consecutive day on Monday and is expected to be available for selection against Watford at Vicarage Road on Tuesday.

Bayern’s “struggles” are good for everyone – even Bayern

Two years ago, Bayern Munich took on Wolfsburg at the Allianz Arena, and were 1-0 down at half-time. Pep Guardiola opted to bring on Robert Lewandowski, and less than 10 minutes later, die Roten were 5-1 up.

The goal-scorer? Lewandowski. All five of them. Flash-forward two years, and there would be no such heroics from the Polish international at the Allianz Arena. Rather, Bayern would have to settle for a 2-2 draw with Wolfsburg in a game that felt more like two points dropped rather than one gained.

Lewandowski got his customary goal, but overall, it was a rather frustrating and disappointing showing from the reigning Bundesliga giants. The absolute shock and joy that had permeated Guardiola s face in seeing the scoreboard had been replaced by a grim and dour Ancelott…

Serie A Preview: Juventus v Napoli

Defending Serie A champions Juventus will be out to move above Napoli into second place when the two sides meet in Turin on Sunday.

Antonio Conte s men are seeking their third consecutive Serie A title but, despite a superb start to the campaign, they sit just third in the table after the first 11 games.

Napoli and Juventus are both three points adrift of unbeaten league leaders Roma, who welcome struggling Sassuolo earlier on Sunday.

Juve have not lost a home league match against Napoli since 2009 and the hosts will likely look to top scorer Carlos Tevez to add to his tally of six league goals as they aim to extend that streak.

Central midfielder Arturo Vidal has also been in fine form, scoring five times in Serie A, while the recent performances of striker Fern…
