Hoping to make up some ground in the European chase, Las Palmas will welcome Cadiz to the Estadio Gran Canaria on Sunday evening.
Starting with the hosts, while Las Palmas might have only made their La Liga return this season, the Pirates are in the midst of what has become a record-breaking flurry. Continuing to gain a string of plaudits from across Spain’s elite since opening up the 2023/24 campaign, Garcia Pimienta’s men are riding a major wave of momentum. Last seen putting in another rugged display as they clinched a 1-0 victory away at Alaves, the former Barcelona coach has seen his squad win all of their previous three domestic appearances on the spin. Opening up December with a routine 2-0 win against Getafe, some around the Estadio Gran Canaria are now dreaming of the chance to mount a genuine European charge. Smelling another golden opportunity here, Las Palmas should also be excited by their continued success on home soil. In fact, on a hometown purple patch that is underlined by a remarkable 2-1 victory against Atletico Madrid on November 3rd, Sunday’s hosts have won four of their last five showdowns in front of their own supporters.
As for the visitors, although Cadiz might have eventually cruised their way to La Liga safety last season, the Yellow Submarine appear to be bracing themselves for another relegation scrap this time around. Including an action-packed 3-2 defeat at the hands of Atletico Madrid on October 1st, Gonzalez’s men have also failed to record a sole clean sheet on their travels so far this season.
